The Habit of Breath

Take a Deep Breath - This is THE BEST place to Begin!

I know, you are probably like..."But, Sarah....uhh...duh...I breathe everyday, why do I need to learn how to do this...?" I hate to break it to you, but MOST (I mean it, most..) people have no idea that their breathing is less than optimal and is not helping their situation. Most humans are walking around in a state of slight anxiety and undue stress so their breathing is shallow which for a number of reasons is not serving you. The #1 reason is...it keeps you stuck in a chronic state of "fight & flight aka: survival mode". AND...it's time to close the floodgates on those stress hormones coursing through your body reeking havoc on you.

I am going to go ahead and take a guess, even if you do know that you should have a breathwork practice, you probably aren't implementing it.  SO...I'm going to make it really easy for you.

Having good foundational breathwork routine is important for a variety of reasons... 

  • Reduces the influx of stress hormones
  • Accesses FREE relaxation receptors
  • Brings about more clarity and focus
  • Improves sleep and sleep quality
  • Calms the nervous system
  • Helping us feel secure & at home
  • Creates physical & mental flexibility
  • Improving our generosity & optimism

Breathing Techniques

Because I recognize that one size doesn't fit all I am providing you with the two exercises I use in my own daily practice.  This is an important first step in re-wiring your nervous system for more relaxation and less survival mode.  The goal is to do one of these twice a day, so I suggest trying both of these exercises on and see which one works best for you.
